Artificial Intelligence, The use ChatGPT and a Chatbot- Module 2
I was having a hard time getting information on using a Chatbot for a general education degree, so I did initial research in the tourism industry and then decided to use my wife's field of study, which is ministry. A chatbot is already commonly used in the tourism industry but not as prevalent in ministry.
1. Artificial Intelligence (AI) to me is a systematic approach to how the brain processes information in a computer system. AI continues to grow and self-develop from every human interaction it has. The most common abilities are learning reasoning and self-correction. According to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), AI is the "field of study that aims to create machines that can perform tasks that typically require human intelligence, such as visual perception, speech recognition, decision-making, and language translation." (MIT, n.d.). I already see chatbots in various business industries such as corporate landing pages for both products and services, your insurance company websites, most if not all travel industries, and in merchandise-retail websites.
2. AI's application in ministry can be used to enhance various aspects of the ministry such as reaching out to the community, personalizing the message, and providing spiritual care.
One example of AI's application in ministry is using chatbots to provide spiritual care and counseling. Chatbots can be programmed to understand natural language and respond to users with empathy and understanding. This can help provide people with a sense of connection and support during times of need. (J.D.E. et al., 2020, "Chatbots and natural language processing in mental health: a systematic review")
Another example is AI's application in community outreach. AI can be used to analyze data to identify communities that need spiritual care, then create targeted messaging and outreach programs to reach those communities. (R.M. et al. 2019, "Artificial Intelligence in Ministry: A Guide for Pastors and Church Leaders")
AI can also be used to personalize the message for individuals. For instance, AI-powered virtual assistants can help people find relevant passages from the Bible or other religious texts, based on their specific needs and interests. (A.C. et al. 2018, "Using artificial intelligence to personalize religious content")
A chatbot for a church can serve many purposes and can be integrated into the church's website or mobile app. The chatbot could be used for the following purposes:
-Service Information
-Prayer request
-Bible studies
-Giving, donations,
Volunteer opportunities
-Church news, events, and live stream information
-Church leadership
In conclusion, AI can be applied to various aspects of ministry, such as providing spiritual care, community outreach, and personalization of the message. Its potential to enhance ministry activities is worth exploring, with the help of experts in the field, to ensure its ethical and responsible use.
Regardless of what Chatbot I help develop in this course; I will use this knowledge to help my church use this tool that has enormous potential for growing a church.
Now that I have been exposed to ChatGPT even more and starting to feel comfortable with it I do believe that ChatGPT can violate ethics and integrity code of conduct, I can quickly start to tell that this tool may and will take over the actual intellectual effort of both students and adults to write something from scratch such as writing a paper, a blog, a news article, a social media post, a book, and even a discussion post.
Although using multiple prompts to gather the best information I would like to present, is no different, than using google to search for something and literally copy and paste from an author and using it as your own. Some could argue that critical thinking was made in writing a prompt in ChatGPT to get the information you seek, others would argue that critical thinking is to trust and verify, to research and collaborate, and to take pride in your work.
As AI continues to evolve in our society, in our careers, and in our workplaces, there is a high probability those that who don't adapt to technological advances can soon see early retirement and be out of a job.
